What Is Invisalign?

Do you wish you could straighten your teeth without anyone noticing? Want to fix gaps, a misaligned bite, or crooked teeth, but feel like it’s too late? Are you put off by the idea of wearing metal braces that will feel uncomfortable or attract attention?

Invisalign is an innovative alternative to traditional metal braces. Instead of bonding metal brackets to your teeth, we create custom-made plastic aligners that are molded to your teeth after we take your dental impressions.

These clear aligners make your treatment under the radar, as they are transparent so no one can see them. For your ultimate convenience, you can remove the aligners for up to 2 hours a day to eat and clean your teeth. As long as you remove the aligners first, you can eat anything your heart desires and the lack of obscured tooth surfaces means a reduced risk of tooth decay and discoloration.

Did you know...

There are no wires or metal brackets with Invisalign treatment. This eliminates the need for these types of adjustments at your office visits.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Using advanced 3D intraoral cameras and our special software, we can recreate a 3D digital model of your mouth and digitally plan your tooth movements.

Your aligners are fabricated in a dental lab to precisely fit the contours of your teeth. Then, you’ll return to our office to pick them up and begin wearing them for 22 hours a day. The aligners are changed every 2 weeks, as they exert continual pressure on your teeth to move them while you’re wearing them.

Over time, the aligners become less tight, as your teeth move into the correct position. This is when it’s time for the next aligner.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign doesn’t disrupt your smile because the clear aligners are unnoticeable and blend in with your teeth. Even when patients need to get Invisalign attachments bonded to their teeth, these are made of tooth-colored resin that blends in with the teeth and is covered with the aligners.

Invisalign is much more hygienic than braces because you’re able to remove them to thoroughly brush and floss. This also prevents food particles and stains from being trapped in your aligners, since you take them out before eating and can easily clean the surfaces of your aligners.

When patients wear braces, they need to avoid many of their favorite foods that are hard, sticky, or crunchy because they can break or get stuck in their braces. You can enjoy a restriction-free diet with Invisalign.

The pressure exerted on your teeth is also greatly minimized thanks to our Smart Track aligners which place gentle pressure on your teeth. Invisalign is also associated with fewer appointments and faster treatment times.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

How long your treatment takes depends on many different variables, such as:

  • The complexity of your treatment
  • How severe your orthodontic problems are
  • Compliance with treatment (wearing aligners for 22 hours a day)

The average length of treatment is 12-18 months, so this is representative of most patients. However, there will always be people who fall on either side of the extremes, which may put them in the minority of patients who will have much shorter treatment or much longer. Some patients with very minor issues like small gaps may only take 6 months, while others may need to wear Invisalign for a couple of years.

Am I A Good Candidate For Invisalign?

A good candidate for Invisalign is someone who is in good oral health and has minor orthodontic issues that they want to correct discreetly. Patients with tooth decay and gum disease need to get these problems treated first.

Patients with severely crooked or misaligned bites may be better candidates for braces. Patients who prefer to avoid braces and have minor to moderate orthodontic issues are ideal candidates. Contact us at Primavera Dental Group today to schedule a consultation with our Pflugerville dentist!
